Kara Gibbs, LCSW

Kara is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 10 years of clinical experience. She is a person-centered therapist with the strong belief that the individual is the expert on their own experience and greatest resource for healing. Kara has a holistic approach in her work with clients, addressing and affirming the whole person, not just the initial problem that brought them into therapy.

Kara specializes in providing evidence-based therapy services to adolescents and young adults with a variety of presenting concerns including: substance use issues, trauma and stressor-related disorders, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, adjustment issues, LGBTQ+ issues, and family of origin issues.

As an person-centered therapist, Kara first focuses on building a relationship and connection with a client then determining the best evidence-based treatment approach to meet the client’s needs. These approaches may include: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Motivational Interviewing. In addition to being trained in use of EMDR for treatment of PTSD and trauma disorders, Kara is trained in administration and interpretation of substance use screenings that can provide direction in treatment planning and referral to appropriate treatment services if needed. Kara has extensive experience working with substance use disorders in a residential treatment setting and has a passion for working with teens and young adults struggling with substance use issues as an outpatient therapist.

Kara is a passionate social worker and has received additional training to provide clinical supervision for Licensed Master Social Workers pursuing licensure in either an individual or group setting based on interest level.
